STOURPORT Swifts cruised into the next round of the FA Vase with this comfortable 5-1 home win against Division One side Paget Rangers last Saturday.

After a bright start in which Dan Sweeney and Alex Perry both went close, Swifts had a scare when Paget’s Keegan Wooley broke through but lifted his shot wide.

But on 21 minutes, Sweeney crossed from the right and Perry blasted Stourport into the lead with a fierce volley from ten yards out that Paget keeper Josh Benton could only help into the net.

Drew Canavan made it 2-0 14 minutes later, firing home from the spot after Sweeney was brought down in the box by Luke Bradley.

With Swifts in control, they threw Paget a lifeline when keeper Dom Richards failed to connect with his punch a Bradley corner, and Dean Morris pounced at the far post to score and make it 2-1 at the break.

Swifts hit top gear in the second half and Aaron Lloyd headed home from a pin point Canavan free-kick on 59 minutes, and Paul Hurrell repeated the routine just six minutes later with a bullet header from Canavan’s corner and make it 4-1.

Sweeney failed to find the target when he dallied too long after being put through by Lloyd before Nick Macpherson scored from the spot with four minutes remaining after being brought down by Benton.

Swifts will return to league action this Saturday with a trip to face second from bottom Quorn.
