BEWDLEY Town bounced back to winning ways this week with a battling 2-0 win at AFC Bridgnorth to remain fourth in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

It was just the response Bewdley boss Phil Mullen was looking for following their recent 6-2 mauling from Malvern Town.

That defeat brought to a halt Bewdley's 10 match unbeaten streak and spokesman Steve Godfrey admitted: "We were the exact opposite at Bridgnorth compared to the Malvern game, which without doubt was our worst display of the season by far.

"Whether we were too complacent against Malvern, I just don't know but we were by far the better side at Bridgnorth and the scoreline flattered them to some extent."

Luke Morris got Bewdley off to a flying start at Bridgnorth with a goal within two minutes of the kick-off.

Lewis Pountney then applied the finishing touch onto a fine performance when heading home a second goal from a corner.

Prior to that, promising goalkeeper Joe Siddaway pulled off two top class saves - but Godfrey was quick to insist: "It was always a question of when rather than if we would score a second goal. Defensively we were very good, especially when we defended the slope in the first half. "

Bewdley Town Reserves suffered their first defeat of the season in West Midlands League Division Two when losing out 2-1 to a disputed penalty against second placed Wolverhampton United.

Had Bewdley won, they would have gone second themselves and now leave leaders Sikh Hunters as the only unbeaten side in Division Two.

Bewdley bid to keep the pressure on the Premier League frontrunners this Saturday when they entertain Shifnal Town at Ribbesford Meadow while the reserves travel to Bridgnorth.
