THE young swimmers of Wyre Forest Swimming Club achieved a bumper medal haul of 41 awards at the Worcester Country Championships in Wolverhampton.

Wyre Forest swimmers won 12 gold, 16 silver and 13 bronze medals over the weekends of January 27-28 and February 3-4, with 118 of the team's competitors securing top eight finishes.

The swimmers, ranging from 10 to 16-years-old, were described as a credit to their families and the team by head coach Brian McGuinness.

He said: "I am extremely pleased at the attitude and commitment shown by the swimmers to stand up and race hard weekend after weekend."

Lillie Grover brought home a haul of nine medals in the 10/11-year-old category, including five golds, while Yasmin Yates won nine medals for the 13-year-old age group.

Isabella Hoare and Fraser Thompson won a bronze medal each for the 200m back and 200m breast respectively in the 10/11-age-group.

Representing the 12-year-old age group, Alexandra Hayes won two silver and two bronze medals and Ryan Bloomer grabbed a silver and two bronzes.

The 15-year-old category alone brought home eleven medals thanks to the efforts of Matilda Calder, Lucy Nicholls, Nathaniel Crowther and Robert Darbyshire.

Amber Wright bagged a bronze for the 200m fly while Sam Osborne raced home with a gold in the 400m freestyle, both for the 16 and over category.
