KIDDERMINSTER captain Neil Pinner felt his side let Barnards Green off the hook as they slipped to their first defeat of the season.

KCC lost by 32 runs last Saturday when they failed to back-up their opening day success over Bridgnorth in Birmingham and District League Division One.

Kidderminster dismissed the home side for 148 but failed with the bat in reply. Sam Beadsworth top scored with 42 but it wasn't enough to prevent them being bowled out for 116 in the 42nd over.

Pinner said: "It was a pretty poor wicket and I think we let them off the hook a little with the ball late in the innings.

"They added 40 more than they should have done and that made the difference in the end.

"We then struggled with the bat and couldn't put a partnership together. In that situation you really need someone in the top four to bat through."

Green won the toss but lost an early wicket when Dannie Rees (9) was bowled by Liam Weston. A second wicket fell with Weston having Adam Wiffen (7) caught by Pat Brown.

More success came in the 15th and 16th overs. Opener Ryan Tongue (24) was out lbw to Charlie Stainforth and County player George Rhodes (5) was caught by Weston bowled Chris Steele as the score moved to 55-4.

The hosts recovered before Josh Blunt's unbeaten 23 edged up their total.

Kidderminster’s innings started quite well with 39 runs coming off the first ten overs. Stainforth (12) was bowled by Harris and then the decline set in.

KCC only added 54 more runs with 42 of those from Beadsworth. He batted for 73 minutes, striking six fours before being trapped lbw to Harris.

Pinner was full of praise for the youngster who found runs in difficult circumstances.

He added: "He's our second team captain, is solid with the bat and did really well. He'll be pushing for a place higher up the order."

It wasn't all bad news as the club progressed in the T20 Challenge Cup thanks to a 25-run win over Redditch last Monday.

Pinner fell just two runs short of a ton but had done enough to set up the success.

They will now take on Bromsgrove at home in the next round on Monday, May 28.

KCC will look to bounce back in the league when they welcome Halesowen this Saturday (noon start).

"Hopefully we can learn quickly from it because we were guilt of playing some poor shots against Barnards Green," said Pinner.

"We just need to be more sensible because if we can bat for 45 overs then we should win games.

"Everything is starting to come together though. There is already a big improvement on last year."

Kidderminster could be without Ben Twohig if he's selected by Worcestershire once again.
