PROMISING young Kidderminster cyclist Kinga Ingram excelled during the Youth Tour at the Isle of Man last bank holiday weekend (May 4-6).

The King Charles School pupil and Halesowen Cycling Club member placed fifth overall after three days of racing events, cementing her as fourth nationally for her age group.

Ingram, 14, first competed in a time trial on the seafront at Douglas and managed to place 10th in the race, with only 100th’s of seconds separating 10th and fifth place.

The Saturday sprint saw Ingram challenge the national champion by strongly placing third from the flat 18-mile closed road circuit.

To close the successful weekend she completed a hill course with two miles of uphill cycling followed by a downward rush. She stayed in the breakaway group of five to finish fourth and cement herself at fifth place for the competition.

Her father Stuart said: “Kinga being Kinga – she wanted the podium - but there will be plenty more opportunities in the future for her to take it.”

Ingram is supported by James Jenkins from Success Cycling who sets her training programme, sports therapist Bambi Shaw, and Go Outdoors' Luke Metcalf who services her bike.
