Stour keep hopes alive

STOURPORT moved into contention for promotion in the Worcestershire League Division Two with a win and a draw.

The 35-point haul saw them rise to fourth in the table and with two games of the season left they can still catch second-placed Worcester Dominies, who are a further 28 ahead.

On Saturday, Stourport picked up a winning draw at home to Feckenham.

Dan Platt top-scored with 88 not out as Stourport reached 208-7. Lee Waldron then took three wickets as Feckenham reached 123-9 in 30 overs.

Two days later, they got the better of Romsley and Hunnington by six wickets.

Waldron took five wickets and Andrew Cavendish three as Romsley were bowled out for 83. Opener Platt hit 35 as Stourport made 84-4 in reply. They entertain Wyre Forest rivals Bewdley, who are one place below, on Saturday (12.30pm start).

n Bewdley saw their matches against Enville and Alvechurch abandoned because of the rain.

Their seconds dodged the heavy showers on Saturday to secure a winning draw at home to Alvechurch, a result which gives them some breathing space in their battle to avoid relegation.

Stephen Molyneux (80) continued his recent good run of form as Bewdley closed on 216-8.

In reply, Alvechurch battled to 136-9, despite a four-wicket haul for Mark Hudson.

On Monday, the match against Pedmore was abandoned.

n Rain interfered with both Cookley’s promotion chances in Worcestershire Division Three as all their Bank Holiday weekend games were abandoned.

After a Saturday wash-out against Himley, the leader leaders travelled to closest rivals Harvington on Monday.

The hosts went on to post 226-6 declared despite the efforts of Paul Thomas (4-33).

The weather then interfered, but Harvington who had drew with Malvern on Saturday, closed the gap to just three points at the top of the table.

With two games left a win from either will secure Cookley promotion.

The seconds saw their clashes against Wormelow and Worcester Dominies abandoned.

Cookley’s first team entertain Harborne on Saturday (12.30pm start).
