Dyer’s quartet take the President’s honours

KIDDERMINSTER Golf Club saw the quartet of Mike Dyer, John Beasley, Steve Beddoes and Kevin Woodham win the President’s weekend.
The four sealed the Sally Battin Trophy with a score of 84, edging Paul Massey, Bob Taylor, John Thompson and David Thorpe (82) into second place.
Richard Jones, Andy Jones , Jonny Fisher and Graham Steadman (79 points) finished third.
Other President’s weekend results — Mixed Team: 1 Merv Billingham, Ann Billingham, Trevor Argent, Mark Cox (70 points).
Nearest the pin on the fifth and 10th: Mat Rock; 15th: A Marshall.
Nearest pin in two on 18th: Dr Kevin O’Connor.
Winners of the T Harman-Smith Foursomes Trophy: 1 Merv & Ann Billingham (34 points), 2 Paul Massey & Shirley Caswell (32 points).
Ladies, Nick Underwood Trophy: 1 Yvonne Foley (33 points); 2 Lin Palmer (31 points).
Nine-hole Stableford: 1 Joy Blakeway (13 points); 2 Beryl Dyson (10 points).
John Hudson Junior Open: 1 Andy Longmore (Kidderminster GC) 74 gross.
Little Lakes played their final two games in the Worcestershire Handicap league away at Ombersley and at home against Evesham.
They lost 4-2 at Ombersley with pairs John Morley and Clive Worrall and Ian Sorrell and Dave Collins winning.
Lakes then went into their final match knowing they had to win 6-0 to progress to the semi-finals. However, they came up short, winning 3½-2½.
Pairs Kev Phillips and Clive Worral, Marcus Ballinger and Alf Heaton and Clive Dorrell and Jordan Dorrell all won, while Melvyn Davies and Ethan Davies secured the half. Little Lakes have won all their home games this season and just missed out on a semi-final place by individual games won.

Cleobury Mortimer junior Jack Severn, 11, came fourth in a Midlands regional tournament with a second round gross score of 90. He came eighth overall in the Tiger cub national tour’s order of merit and has qualified for the finals in Nottingham.
