Bewdley march on in the Vase

BEWDLEY Town booked their place in the next stage of the FA Vase and a trip to Midland Alliance side Rocester thanks to a convincing 3-0 beating of Leek CSOB.

The highlight of the game was a wonderfully taken third goal from Jason Wellings as waltzed past three defenders before drilling home a low shot.

Sean Wright and former England schoolboy international Richard Burgess had earlier put Bewdley in the driving seat with a couple of well taken goals.

Town gave a rare outing to goalkeeper Craig Mole in place of regular shot-stopper Darren Steadman , with the former performing extremely well.

Tuesday saw Bewdley climb to sixth spot in the West Midlands League Premier Division after a 2-1 win over Wellington.

The Herefordshire side were gunning for revenge following their FA Cup exit by Bewdley, but instead were blown apart in the opening 20 minutes.

Simon Rudds rifled home a sixth-minute free-kick to put Bewdley ahead before Sam Watkins set up Burgess for a second goal on 15 minutes.

Although Wellington pulled a goal back, they never looked like getting on terms with Bewdley.

Joint boss Brian Lacey said: “We were guilty of taking our eye off the ball for a while and the players had to be told at half time to concentrate throughout.”

Bewdley travel to West Midland League newboys Bartley Green this Saturday boosted by the return of Chris Hough .

However, Bewdley are still missing several key players with Richard Costello, Robbie Orme, Zac Marriott and Craig Webb all absent.
