Bewdley facing defensive crisis
8:00am Friday 28th September 2012 in Sportsview
BEWDLEY Town boss Craig Payton must bolster his defence ahead of Saturday’s visit from runaway West Midland League Premier leaders Black Country Rangers.
Already reeling from the loss of defender Robbie Orme, Bewdley were dealt a double blow during last week’s clash with Bartley Green, when central defender Sam Prescott limped off injured after 20 minutes.
To make matters worse, his defensive partner Dan Flowers pulled up hurt at half-time.
Despite restructuring his side at the break, Payton admitted his side couldn’t cope in the second period as they suffered a 5-2 defeat.
He said: “We played the second-half without a recognised central defender and Bartley Green just picked us off - I’ve no complaints about the outcome.”
Payton is hoping that Craig Webb and Richard Costello return in time to face Rangers.
The Bewdley boss added: “The amount of injuries we’ve got is killing us. I’m having to play a number of younger players, but they’re looking jaded already.”
