Stourport earn first victory

STOURPORT Ladies celebrated their first success at National League level with a well deserved 3-1 win at Swansea.

Having lost their opening league game against Barnes, Stourport found Wales much more to their liking and attacked their hosts from the word go.

Forwards Sade Gerald and Lora Symonds proved a constant threat to the Swansea defence while Julie Whiting took charge of the midfield.

Whiting caused considerable problems for the Welsh side with a continual stream of crosses into the area.

However, the opening Stourport goal arrived through a break from Harriet Burns and Rene Johnson allowing Sarah Cavendish to collect the rebound from her own saved shot to belt back into the goal.

Swansea equalised in the second-half from a slick short corner move.

Stourport regaining the lead when Miller combined with Lora Symonds, before the latter slotted home.

That was the signal for Swansea to push forward, but they left gaps in their defence as a result and Stourport capitalised with Gerald sealing victory with a third goal.

Stourport are back in National Conference West action this Saturday when they host Bristol-based Firebrands at Kingsway (noon push back).

The seconds suffered a 1-0 defeat at Towcester in their first Midland Feeder League West contest. Both Sophie Wood and Holly Lashford impressed for Stourport but couldn’t prevent Towcester from scoring the only goal 20 minutes into the second half.

The seconds host Warwick this Saturday starting at 1pm.

Stourport fourths had beat Worcester thirds 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Chey West.

The fourths travel to face Kings Heath Firsts this weekend.

The fifths lost 3-1 to Bromsgrove thirds.

  • STOURPORT men's fourth team were pegged back twice by Worcester in Saturday's 2-2 draw, despite goals for Josh Martin and Chris Davies.

The sixths drew 1-1 with Worcester as Robin Conway bagged a leveller.
The first commence the Midlands Premier at home to Coventry and North Warwickshire on Saturday.
