Bewdley suffering because of absences
11:00am Friday 26th October 2012 in Sport
JOINT Bewdley Town boss Craig Payton admits they are being hampered by injuries and absences to key players this season.
An under strength Ribbesford Meadows side were beaten 3-0 by Cradley Town on Saturday.
They were missing strikers Chris Hough and Richard Burgess, Ed Flory and Ollie Smith.
Payton said: “It’s been the same old story for us this season.
“We keep having important players out injured or just not available for different reasons.
“Richard Burgess and Ollie Smith were injured, while Chris Hough was at a wedding and Ed Flory was on holiday.
“We created as many chances to score as Cradley but we didn’t take them.”
Town’s hopes of bouncing back were dashed on Tuesday night as their home clash against Lye Town was called off because of a soggy pitch at Bewdley.
They will be hoping for more luck on Saturday when they entertain Wednesfield (3pm ko).
Flory is expected to be available, while Robbie Orme could start after recovering from an injury which ruled him out for over a month.
Hough is not available again, while Burgess and Smith are also doubts.
Bewdley’s inconsistent run of form has re-derailed their early season promotion hopes as they have slid into mid-table.
Payton added: “It’s a shame because this season is very close.
“Black Country were running away with the league but they’ve started losing matches and every team is dropping points.
“We’ve just got to keep on going and see what happens.”
