Lora strikes in first home win

HOCKEY: Stourport Ladies stormed to their first home win in the Investec National Conference West as they defeated Staines 4-0.
The Kingsway side came out from the start to win this match and put Staines under pressure.
Patient play enabled Sara Cavendish and Katie Miller to create moves in midfield as Stourport continued to probe.
Stourport came close when Georgi Burns broke down the line and hit the ball across the area where the resultant scramble could not be converted.
But the deadlock was broken when Kerry Maughan, Lauren Shilvock and Erin Preece combined to set up Lora Symonds, who deflected the ball past the keeper’s grill into the net.
The hosts came close again when Cavendish from a short corner saw the diving keeper pad away her dragged effort to the left.
But Sade Gerald bagged the second with an unstoppable shot.
Stourport piled on the pressure in the second-half and created a host of chances.
Player-of-the-match Leanne Bennett added a third after Gerald’s shot had been saved and the quick thinking Symonds had set up the chance.
Bennett and Symonds linked up again to give the former her second with a shot under the keeper.
Sixth-placed Stourport travel to Trojans on Saturday (noon start).
The seconds got the better of Harborne 3-1 in the Midlands Feeder West League thanks to an own goal and strike from Bethan Merriman and Erin Preece.
Stourport’s thirds lost 3-0 to Bromsgrove firsts in the Worcestershire Division One.
Chey West hit the back of the net as the fourths edged out Old Sils seconds in Division Two.
While in Division Three, Teri Baron scored as Stourport lost 2-1 at home to Redditch’s seconds.
