Trojans too strong for Stourport
4:00pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
STOURPORT Ladies suffered a 1-0 loss to Trojans in the Investec National Conference West.
A first-half goal separated the sides in Southampton, despite a dominant display by the Wyre Forest side.
The visitors were positive from the start when trying to put their game plan into action.
Rene Johnson and Lora Symonds both caused problems for the hosts as they evaded tackles from the Trojans defence and chased through balls from Kerry Maughan, Sarah Cavendish and Katie Miller.
Symonds taunted Trojans’ back-line, while Cavendish constantly hit balls into the area to force a deflected shot, but it was to no avail.
Stourport won a host of short corners, with Lauren Shilvock forcing a fine save from the keeper.
Trojans were barely threatening but took the lead against the run of play from a set-piece.
In reply, Stourport piled on the pressure with Harriet Burns and Miller down the right setting up Symonds and Johnson who still found a goal elusive.
Stourport camped in Trojans’ half during the second period, with player of the match Devey orchestrating moves from defence.
The hosts were reduced to 10 temporarily when a player was green carded and Harriett Burns took advantage with a dazzling run but Miller could not take the chance.
Stourport return to action on Saturday, November 10, when they take on Gloucester.
Sally Smith was player-of-the-match as the seconds were edged out 1-0 by Hinckley in the Feeder League West.
Chey West was on target as the fourths went down 2-1 to Worcester in the County League Divison Two.
Stourport’s fifths drew 3-3 with Kidderminster in Division Three. Charlotte Lickman scored as Kidderminster conceded two own goals.
