Payton fumes at ref’s foul language
12:00pm Thursday 1st November 2012 in Sport
REFEREEING was back in the dock after fuming Bewdley Town accused official Phil Reade of disrespect following Tuesday night’s 6-0 defeat to AFC Wulfrunians.
Joint-manager Craig Payton was left stunned after Reade had awarded three penalties to Wulfrunians and sent off Shaun Wright and Sam Watkins for two bookable offences.
In response, the West Midlands Premier League side were set to give the man in black and his assistants a low mark and include a written explanation in their report to the FA.
Wright and Watkins now face one-match bans, which start 21 days after their dismissals.
To make matters, worse Payton also claimed Reade described Town as ‘crap’ in a post-match confrontation.
The incident comes hot on the heels of the aftermath of Manchester United’s 3-2 win at Chelsea, which has resulted in police and FA investigations into referee Mark Clattenburg’s conduct.
Payton said: “Never in 30 years in football have I ever seen such a poor display by a referee.
“I don’t mind that Wulfrunians won, they thoroughly deserved to, but this scoreline and the sendings off make it look as though this was a dirty match when it was nothing of the sort.
“Shaun is our captain but when he questioned why one of the penaltes was given he was ignored, and that’s no way to treat players.
“People talk about respecting the referee but it’s a two-way thing.
“I said to him as he walked off he’s had a bad game and he replied by saying we were ‘crap’.”
Defeat came hot on the heels of a 3-1 win over Wednesfield on Saturday in the Premier Division.
Russ Godfrey returned from injury and scored twice, while Simon Rudd also hit the back of the net.
Craig Webb is set to return for Saturday’s clash at fourth-placed Wolverhampton Casuals after being laid low by a bug (3pm ko).

Is it respectful to start criticising a referee as he walks off the pitch?
A manager approaches a referee as he walks off the pitch and critiques his performance (i am sure the words used were probably a lot more passionate than simply "bad") and then is acting like an outraged virgin that the referee responds in kind?
"Crap" is hardly even an offensive word....
Of course it is not the players fault or the managers, that they were undisciplined enough to pick up 2 yellow cards to get sent off.....you might think that a player already cautioned would be a bit more careful?....but no, it has to be referees fault doesn't it?
I would encourage readers to pay a visit to the next home match and stand near the dugouts......see if you can spot where the foul language is coming from?
