Bedworth 15, Kidderminster Carolians 18

KIDDERMINSTER Carolians enjoyed a late slice of luck to secure a superb success at Bedworth, a result which took them up to third in Midlands Two West (South).

It followed a fabulous start with KCs scoring a converted try in the opening minute.

Full-back Rhys Pritchard produced a clearance kick which wing Nick Martin chased, hacking the ball over the line in the process before it fell kindly for flanker Ben Binnion to pounce and touch down. Fly-half Chris Pinner kicked conversion.

The lead was rapidly frittered away as KCs were caught out by a quickly taken penalty which resulted in a converted try for Bedworth under the posts.

The visitors had the better of exchanges for the remainder of the half but only had a Pinner penalty to show for their efforts as they led 10-7.

KCs cause was helped early in the second period when Bedworth had their scrum-half yellow carded.

The Marlpool Lane side made their advantage tell when centre Laurence Hughes made a timely interception to score an unconverted try. A second Pinner penalty put Carolians 18-7 ahead and well placed for victory, when a moment of madness let Bedworth back into the game.

KCs were awarded a penalty in their own 22, but the chance to clear their lines was spurned when some back-chat to the referee resulted with him reversing his decision, allowing Bedworth to kick a simple penalty.

That was the signal for a big effort from Bedworth, who cut the deficit to just three points when they forced their way over for an unconverted try with seven minutes left.

There was barely a minute remaining when Bedworth won turnover ball and flung it out to their winger, who was situated in acres of space and looked certain to score, but he knocked on as the ball finished fractionally too far in front of him.
