Phoenix spot on for another cup final

WYRE Forest Phoenix Ladies held their nerve to beat Worcester United on penalties and book their place in the final of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire County Cup.

Kirsty Jones had fire Forest ahead on the 3G pitch at University of Worcester but United levelled the scores to force extra-time.

Once again Jones hit the target but a deflected shot dragged Worcester level and forced penalties.

But keeper Vicky Hyde was the hero as she made two fine saves, while Jones, Kirsty Roberts, Stacy Whittall and Leah Haney-Wilcox put their chances away to seal a third cup final place.

Meanwhile, Phoenix’s under-10s lost 4-1 to Redditch and the under-12s were edged out 3-2 by Headless Cross.

Caelen Gower, Chloe Whyley and Ella Stokes (2) hit the target as Wyre Forest’s under-13s defeated WVFC Kittens 4-0.
