Impressive showing

STUDENTS from Lacon Childe School in Cleobury Mortimer reached the finals of the West Midlands Badminton under-16s Championships.

The team enjoyed a fine run to the final, where they lost to Langley School from Solihull.

At the Shropshire Championships, where Lacon defeated teams from Thomas Telford, Bridgnorth Endowed, Meole Brace and Blessed Robert Johnson Schools.

That saw them book their spot in the regional round and in the group stages they saw off King Edwards and Kingswinford Schools, with fine singles performances by Ted Dolphin and Harry Martin.

Lacon then knocked out North Bromsgrove High School with a 4-1 win, after fine displays by doubles pairing John Haywood and James Powell.

The school also saw a number of students selected for West Midlands volleyball teams.

Former student Connor Phelps and Josh Bate were picked for the under-17s boys, while Jack Brookes, Charlie Edwards and Louie Edwards made it into the under-15s.

Kirsty Barnett was selected for the girls under-16s while in the under-14s, Sophie Chance, Chloe Phillips and Shannon Smith impressed.
