NATHAN Freke demonstrated his race winning credentials as he returned to the Ginetta G55 Championship with a bang at Oulton Park.

The 30-year-old was forced to step in after James Birch quit the Century Motorsport team to join a rival outfit.

But Freke, who won the Championship three years ago, produced a masterful display in the car, sponsored by website theplayer.co.uk, with two victories.

The Kidderminster speed demon is currently a freelance driver, who is prepared to race for free, and is keen to secure spots on teams competing at British Touring Car and GT3 Championship levels.

Father Clive Freke said: “Nathan is a gun for hire but he is happy to race for free!

“There are teams out there looking for drivers but you still need a lot of money to race, so Nathan is hoping his performance at the weekend will attract some interest.

“Teams can have a driver who has the financial backing but will finish halfway down the pack, while Nathan doesn’t have any money but has a proven track record of winning races.”

Freke certainly did his reputation no harm as he stormed back into action in the Ginetta GT Supercup.

After rebuilding the car following his damage at Thruxton, he then set about out racing the rest of the field.

He secured second on the grid in qualifying and in race one sped to the front and never looked back as he held off second-placed Tom Ingram.

Freke then repeated the feat in race two with another impressive start to finish win.

Century Motorsport’s Mike Simpson was also in fine form and won both his G55 class races to seal a fine weekend for the team.
