JOSH Carpenter saw off some of the region’s best young players to win the Midland Youth Championships at Stoke Rochfords Golf Club in Lincolnshire.

The 21-year-old member of Cleobury Mortimer GC beat 150 players from Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire, Derbyshire, Cambridge area, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Staffordshire and Warrickshire to win the title.

After leading the competition for the first three rounds, favorite Nick Watson had to settle for fourth spot with a 279 total after a final round of 75.

This meant Carpenter took control of the tournament with 11 birdies in his final three rounds after an opening round of 71.

He finished on four under par for the tournament and won by a single stroke.

  •  Cleobury Mortimer Ladies got through to the semi-finals of the Droitwich League and will meet Bromsgrove.

The July Stableford was won by Julie Curry with 36 points.

n Kevin Dunn produced a nerveless performance on Sunday to win Burlish Park’s Club Championship at the weekend.
