Alfreton 3, Harriers 1

HARRIERS tasted their first defeat of the season as two former players shot them down in Derbyshire on Tuesday night.

A brace for former Kidderminster winger Dan Bradley and one form midfielder Tom Shaw inflicted defeat.

Steve Burr's side created and wasted a host of chances but the visitors looked uncharacteristically lacklustre in both boxes.

Kyle Storer pulled one back with 11 minutes of normal time left but they could not prevent a first ever defeat at the Impact Arena.

Harriers were caught out as Alfreton made a bright started an opened the scoring.

Centre back mis-judged a Josh Law free-kick and Bradley stole in at far post to slide far for his third effort against his old club.

Things could have been worse as the away team struggled to find their feet.

Danny Lewis beat away a firm effort from Shaw.

Gowling also came to left-back Mickey Demetriou's rescue after former Portsmouth powerhouse Johnn Akinde muscled past him but the centre back slid in to win the ball.

But Harriers started to crank up the pressure and created a host of good chances.

Keeper Ross Atkins, who also had a spell at Aggborough three years ago, dived to his right to deny Anthony Malbon.

Kyle Storer saw a thundering left-footed drive hit the underside of the bar and bounce the wrong side of the line.

Left winger Marvin Johnson had been given acres of space by full back Bradley Wood and he teed up Malbon, who fired wide from ten yards out.

Harriers' flying winger also squandered a glorious chance after combining with Michael Gash but missed the target.

Gash has a chance to equalise but headed wide at the far post at the start of the second half.

Harriers' profligacy in front of goal was punished as Alfreton doubled their lead in the 51st minute.

Paul Clayton held up the ball well and found Shaw, who beat Lewis with a low effort.

Malbon's miserable might was confirmed when he was replaced by Dior Angus after picking up an injury.

Gash could have pulled one back with another good cross from Johnson but the hitman headed wide.

Bradley made sure Kidderminster tasted defeat when he finished off a slick counter-attack with a firm finish in the 70th minute.

But Storer pulled an effort back in the 80th minute, smashing home from distance after good work by Lee Fowler.  Johnson should have done better when he cut in from the left cut rashly curled an effort off target.

The away side pushed but John McGrath, another ex-Kidderminster player, headed over.
