Cookley battling for their survival
3:00pm Thursday 15th August 2013 in Sport
WITH six games to go Cookley’s first and second teams face a testing time to avoid relegation.
Both sides were well beaten by high-flying Colwall, but the thirds finished their league campaign with a fine victory.
In Division Two, 192 was never enough on an excellent batting wicket despite a 79 from Mark Bennett as the firsts lost to Colwall by seven wickets.
They go to Feckenham on Saturday (1.30pm start).
The seconds suffered a 77-run defeat against Colwall.
Fielding a side with an average age of 42, Colwall managed to post 229-9.
Mike Wood (5-65) and Simon Anderson (4-58) took the wickets for Cookley.
Cookley looked well set at 70-1 after Lee Shewry hit 45, but a woeful middle-order collapse saw them dismissed for 152.
Ian Goodman came out of retirement to score 77 and help Cookley’s thirds beat Breedon. Captain Dick Barton also hit 47 as Cookley made 187-7.
Charlie Barton then shone with the ball 3-15 and a maximum points win was achieved but they were denied promotion as Alvechurch conceded to Bromyard.
