Holiday blues for sorry Cookley

COOKLEY suffered a disastrous Bank Holiday weekend in Worcestershire League Division Two.
The relegation-threatened side were held to a losing draw against Netherton on Saturday and then lost by 159 runs to Enville on Monday.
Having put Netherton into bat, skipper Gary Mills led from the front with a 4-57 to restrict Netherton to 217.
Cookley were well placed for victory but four lbw dismissals later saw close on 205-9 with Ben Quinlan unbeaten on 76.
On Monday, Enville posted 247 but Cookley then proceeded to have their worst batting display of the season collapsing to a paltry 88.
Cookley remain in 10th and 23 points ahead of Stourport.
The Villagers host Tenbury on Saturday (1pm start).
Meanwhile, the seconds put in two good performances despite fielding weakened sides.
On Saturday, they played Birmingham League bound Division champions Astwood Bank and became the first side to bowl them out this season as they dismissed them for 193.
Simon Anderson was outstanding with 5-53 and Lee Shewry finished with 4-34.
An early collapse dented any hopes of a major upset as Cookley were all out for 142 with Russell Whitehouse top scoring with 41.
Leading wicket-taker Mike Wood returned for the Monday fixture at Enville and produced a match-winning performance of 7-43 from his 17 over spell as Cookley’s opponents were dismissed for 146.
Matty Goode impressive with a cultured 50 as they made 147-6 in reply.
