Shorter’s perfect 10 crushes Bewdley
6:00am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
UNDER-strength Bewdley went down to an abject defeat at Enville to end their hopes of promotion in Worcestershire League Division Two.
They were torn apart from Enville’s Ben Shorter, who took all 10 wickets.
Fourth-placed Bewdley managed to restrict Enville to a reasonable total thanks to Ewan Peer (1-61), but their batsmen had no answer to Shorter, only Robert Crane (27) emerging with any credit at all.
Bewdley complete an encouraging season at home to Tenbury (12.30pm start).
The seconds ended their home campaign with a five-wicket win over Enville.
The visitors batted first and recovered from losing some early wickets to post a useful target of 244-9 despite the best efforts of Rom Weaver (4-65).
Bewdley got off to a very solid start with the bat, Matt Thwaites (51) and Andy Robinson (73) recording a century opening stand, the latter recording his first half-century of the season.
The game was still in the balance with eight overs to go, but Stephen Molyneux (51 not out) quickly hit his stride and Bewdley sauntered to their target.
n Stourport look set for relegation in Division Two despite a winning draw against Rushwick.
With three teams being relegated, Stourport cannot catch fourth-from-bottom Rushwick.
Batting first, Andy Siwicki top-scored with 61 in a total of 175 all out. Rushwick looked to be cruising at 72-1 before the loss of the dangerous Chris Pearman saw a collapse with them hanging on for the losing draw at 127-9 Matt Delo (4-30) and Lee Waldron (3-24) were the pick of the Stourport attack.
Stourport end the season at Cookley (12.30pm start).
An excellent 102 not out from Phil Williams was not enough to see the seconds to victory against Himley fourths.
