CRAIG Payton says the imminent return of club captain Sean Wright will be a massive boost to his young Bewdley Town side as they look to climb up the West Midlands Regional League table.

Central defender Wright has been sidelined for almost eight weeks with a back injury.

But he is due to resume training tonight and could feature with the under-21s on Saturday.

Payton said: “We’ve really missed Sean’s experience and having him back would really strengthen our defence.

“Craig Webb has done a great job filling in there for him but he is happier in midfield and we are happier having him there. The down side is he has picked up quite a few yellow cards in the meantime.”

Bewdley entertain Wellington on Saturday looking to a avenge a 6-2 defeat earlier in the season that saw them reduced to nine men, with Webb one of the two players to see red.

Tuesday’s home game with Bilston was postponed due to floodlight failure minutes before kick-off when two bulbs blew.

“It’s something we will have to look at, I don’t think we’ve changed any bulbs in the six years we’ve had the lights and it could be that more will start to go now. Most of the pitch was fine and playable but there was one dark area.”

On Saturday, they lost 2-0 at Shawbury having won 4-1 in the Worcestershire Infirmary Cup on Thursday as they look to retain the trophy they won last season.

“We made a few mistakes against Shawbury,” said Payton. “But we could have won the game and that is really the story of our season.

“We have a young side who are starting to play well and I can see we are starting to turn the corner, and having someone like Sean back soon will help that corner to be turned.

“The key for us against Wellington will be to keep our shape and not concedeand look to hit them on the break.

“We had two men sent off at their place and at this level if that happens you are always going to get caught out, so hopefully we can hopefully even that situation up.

“It’s always a good game with Welllington and we felt very hard done by at their place, it could easily have been a draw.”

Bewdley visit Wolverhampton Casuals on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
