SOPHIE Deeming-Lane and Ruth Tilt led the gold charge for Samurai at the Minimon Open Championships.

The former won all three of her contests by maximum points, beating a girl from Brecon in the final.

Tilt was victorious in all four of her contests, also by maximum score, and comfortably defeated a player from Long Eaton in her final.

Sophie’s sister Lily Deeming-Lane added a bronze for the girls, winning several contests very well but was edged out by a Swansea player in a close semi-final.

Harry Male and Callum Spencer both took silver, while there were bronzes for Dillon Walker and Evan Turner.

There was also a team event, with clubs mixed and matched together into scratch teams.

A predominantly Samurai girls team includingTilt, the Deeming-Lane sisters and two players from Corby and Wellingborough won the bronze in the girls’ team section.

They lost their semi-final 3-2 despite emphatic wins from Sophie and Ruth, but came back to win the bronze 3-2.

The boys, joined by players from Leicester and Swansea, also won their first match to reach the semi-finaals befoe losing, but then won their last match to take the bronze.

Meanwhile, Bryony Griffiths went to the Nottingham Open, where she fought her way into the final comfortably.

She then lost the gold medal contest to a very experienced player, but was still happy with silver.
