SAMURAI collected a hat-trick of silver medals at the Warwick University Open Championships last weekend.

Reece Bourne reached the final in the men’s low grades and after doing well in the early exchanges, he was caught on the ground and had to settle for silver.

In the ladies open grades, Frankie Marston was on superb form and won three contests with some excellent and spectacular throws to gain her place in the final, where she was just edged out.

In the same weight group, Jess Sullivan was unlucky to finish just outside the medals.

Having fought her way through to the bronze play-off, she dominated the contest but was unable to gain a decisive score.

As the match went into extra time her fitness waned and her opponent managed a score against the run of play to take the bronze and leave Jess fifth.

Laura Dangerfield, in the weight group immediately above Marston and Sullivan, also reached the final after three convincing wins, but then made a mistake early on against a French player and was thrown for maximum points.
