STUDENTS from Heathfield Community School in Wolverley helped to secure first place in the ISA Midland Cross Country Championships at Bedstone College in Shropshire.
The team containing Emily Seymour-Perry, Sally Thorogood, Amelia Cove, Alice Dudley, Saffron Smith and Lucy Newton raced to victory in year five to six age group.
Seymour-Perry, Thorogood, Cove and Dudley also qualified for the national championships after securing top ten finishes out of an overall field of 150.
The six-strong team claimed the shield for the second consecutive year, with their points score of 65 far superior to the second-placed side, who bagged 130.
Heathfield had sent a team of 52 junior and senior pupils to the event, which attracted strong contenders from about 20 schools from all corners of the Midlands.
Every athlete put in a superb performance running in what became a mud bath after a prolonged spell on heavy rain.
Teacher Anne Williams was full of praise for her team.
She said: “We are so proud of Heathfield pupils who put in such determined team efforts in appalling conditions.”
