WYRE Forest had a number of their swimmers exceed the speeding limit as they finished last out of four clubs in the first round of the ROSS PGL League.

With the event focussing on providing under-14s with their first taste of competitive action, there is a maximum time which must not be exceeded.

Unfortunately, a host of individual racers and relay teams exceeded the speed limit meaning their results did not count.

Overall, Wyre Forest saw 80 per cent of all their swimmers record personal best times and there was 13 first places.

Abbey Tarpey and William Robbins raced to two victories each, while there were wins for Alex Farmer, Eddie Cox, Robert Darbyshire, Holly Workman, Sam Baggott, Jasmine Bird, Mollie Bellingham and Tom Guest.

The girls under-14s relay team of Jasmine Bird, Rosie Egan, Lucy Watkiss and Rosie Lane did the double in the freestyle and medley events.

The 10-year-old boys freestyle relay team of Tom Guest, Ethan Gilbert, Robert Darbyshire and Adam Newey also achieved a win.

Head coach Mark Wilmott said: “The team all swam out of their skins and put on an amazing performance.

“The junior development squads are coming on leaps and bounds, as they demonstrated tonight, even though so many were swimming in their first gala outside of our own Club Championships.

“On the surface it appears that coming in fourth place we were outperformed by the other teams, but looking at all of the speeding tickets and personal best times, we were flying.

“This showcases the fantastic work being done by the volunteer coaches and the hours of training being put in by our swimmers.”
