New girls side take crown in knockout

THE new girls’ football team from Franche Primary School, in Kidderminster, claimed the county crown in a thrilling knockout competition.

The Year Four girls had won the district finals earlier in the season to be selected as the representative for Wyre Forest at the countywide Worcestershire School Games.

Despite stiff competition, they triumphed to win gold.

Coach and teacher Matt Caddick said: “They did brilliantly but most of all they really enjoyed themselves and showed great sportsmanship. Their tremendous performance was matched by their attitude, demonstrating honesty, passion, respect, determination, teamwork and self-belief. They were a credit to the school and to the district.”

  •  Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies lost 5-1 to promotion-chasing Marston Green in the West Midlands Regional League on Sunday.

Phoenix never recovered from conceding two goals in the first 15 minutes.

Heidi Mitchell scored after good work from Bex Meredith but in the final ten minutes, Green bagged three more goals.

In the Hereford and Worcester Girls and Women’s County League, Wyre Forest went down 4-1 at home to Droitwich Spa.

Chase Pheysey-Hoban bagged their goal and Phoenix are away to AFC Worcester on Sunday. Forest’s U12s drew 1-1 with Kinver.

Natasha Trabulo had fired them ahead but the Black Country side levelled with a deflected effort.

The U13s suffered an 8-0 loss to leaders Nunnery Wood Coyotes. Carys Jones scored five as the U14s drew 2-2 at Redditch Borough and won 4-2 at home.
