WYRE Forest Swimming club junior swimmers took part in round one of the Nuneaton Junior League.

In an impressive display Wyre Forest battled to second place on the night behind an in-form Leicester Sharks side.

In the same fixture last year the club only just managed to avoid bottom place and finished fifth so the coaching team know that development structure that they now have in place is working.

There were heat wins for Alfie Myers, Emily Seymour-Perry, Nicole Tanser-Voets, Mia Walton, Holly Workman and two wins each for Olivia Jay and Adam Newey.

There were also freestyle relay wins for the girls nine and 11 year olds. Medley relay wins were also achieved by the 11-year-old girls and the 10-year-old boys.

Next month the club travel to Stafford for round two. Meanwhile the senior swimmers from the club were taking part in a top-flight open meet hosted by the city of Bristol club in the new 50 meter pool in the city.

For many of the swimmers this was their first taste of racing in a 50-metre pool. It was the old and new that brought in top honours for the club with 17-year-old Megan Tinsdale winning the Open 50 metres freestyle and Ryan Larkin winning the gold in the 12-year-old 50-metre Butterfly.

Further medals were added with second places going to Abbie Rowley in the 12-year-old 50-metre Breaststroke and Isobel Bowers in the 14-year-old 50 metre backstroke.
