KIDDERMINSTER Victoria’s juniors are enjoying a great start to the season with four wins and a half century under their belt already.

The under-11s won their first Premier League match against Worcester Dominies with eight overs to spare on Sunday and opened their WCB T20 league challenge in style with victory over Ombersley in just 10 overs.

There have also been first round knockout cup triumphs for the under-12s against Barnt Green, winning a tight match with 120 runs for six wickets in 19 overs, while the under-15s had a nail-biting final over to steal the honours from Droitwich Spa by a single run on Sunday.

Although the under-15s lost to OEs on Tuesday, KVCC’s team of under-14s and two under-13s gave them a run for their money, taking all their wickets while OEs managed to steal just two of theirs, while Harry Carter had to retire having made an impressive 50.

Several matches have already fallen victim to the rain with an under-11s Premier League match and the under-16s first game cancelled due to waterlogged pitches at Ombersley and Old Elizabethans.

Although the season has just started new members across the ages, from under-7 to under-16, are welcome to join the Chester Road club.

Junior section chairman Sarah Beadsworth said: “It’s been a very positive start to the season. It’s early days yet and, inevitably, there will be a few disappointments to come, but we have strong teams and a keen desire for success, fun and development of players.

“It’s not too late for boys and girls to join, train with us and have the opportunity to play competitively in a host of competitions and age groups.”

Newcomers are offered two free taster sessions for the weekly Monday training, which runs from 6pm until 8pm, with ECB qualified coaches.
