KIDDERMINSTER Victoria experienced contrasting results in league and cup at the weekend.

During a soggy Saturday, the Chester Road side lost to Knowle and Dorridge by six wickets due to the Warwickshire side’s better run-rate.

But they bounced back on Sunday in the ECB National Knockout Cup by defeating Himley to book their place in round three.

On Saturday in the Birmingham Premier, KVCC had made 197 all out, with Craig Wood’s determined 83 not out keeping their innings together.

But as the game progressed, the rain increased and the clash was stopped eight times.

Despite the delays, Knowle reached 84-4 in 16 overs to win the game.

Captain Jonathan Wright said: “The game was a farce and should not have continued.

“I agree it should have started but by the time we came to bowl there were players falling over and water all over the place.

“At the end of the game, both captains fill in a form assessing the umpires and while overall I was happy with how they performed in many areas, I have put down my thoughts in the section which asks about their assessment of the conditions.

“It was fair enough that Knowle and Dorridge won, the system is a half way house between the Duck Lewis system and run rate.”

KVCC hit back impressively against an under strength Himley side on Sunday.

They won the toss and elected to field. Himley’s openers Sandeep Dhillon (39) and Jamie Harris (68) got them off to a good start, and Stuart Wedge (20) and Jack Whittaker (25) added vital runs.

But Wright was the pick of the bowling, taking 3-42. Next best was Richard Kimberlin with 2-27 as Himley were dismissed for 203.

Andrew Kimberlin (31) and Connor Smith (23) provided Kidderminster with a positive start, but the match-winners were Wood (55) and Zac Turley (49), while Andrew Siwicki (11) made a useful contribution as KVCC made 204-4 in reply.

They will now go to Kenilworth Wardens in the next round on Sunday, June 1.

KVCC entertain Barnt GreeN on Saturday (noon start) and go to Shrewsbury on Sunday for the semi-final of the GW Trophy.
