BEWDLEY held their nerve to win a thrilling Worcestershire Division Two contest against Enville by three wickets.

After winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, Bewdley bowler Andy Platt set a good example by bowling his ten overs for only 12 runs.

The other bowlers were not so parsimonious, but even so there were two wickets each for Jack Mills and Simon Mauger, and Tom Weaver chipped in with the vital wicket of Greg Tomkins.

But Enville’s total of 228-6 was founded on a splendid innings of 96 not out from Matthew Branch. Bewdley’s satisfaction at restricting their opponents to a manageable target was soon dented when they found themselves at 10-3.

Captain Matt Cowdery batted sensibly for 18, but at 72-5 Bewdley’s position was precarious.

At this stage Luke Groves joined opener Wilkinson and they combined in a partnership of 61. Nick Wilkinson left after a fine 47, and Groves contributed 58 runs.

Even so, victory seemed a long way off at 179-7, but Mills (32no and Robert Crane (23no) batted calmly to steer their side to 229-7.

They entertain struggling Feckenham in the league on Saturday (1pm start).

Bewdley are third in the table after three wins and one abandoned match.

The seconds got the better of Drotwich by 177 runs to record their first win of the summer.

With the sun beating down on a fantastic Lower Park wicket Bewdley won the toss and decided to bat.

This proved to be a good decision as a majestic second-wicket partnership of 250 between centurions Robin Drake (105) and Connor Franklin (137), saw Bewdley post a daunting total of 333-7. Droitwich skipper Goddard (2-31) was the pick of the bowling, showing great control of both line and length.

The Droitwich reply started strongly and it took a good piece of fielding from Jon Elmer to break the opening partnership of 89 via a run-out.

The introduction of spinners Jones (2-16) and Morris (4-26) put the brakes on the run rate and brought wickets as a result.

James Marsh (3-18) finished off the Droitwich tail to ensure that Bewdley sealed victory by 177 runs.

Bewdley travel to Evesham this weekend and will be hoping to build on this positive result.
