WEST Midlands TAGB won 17 medals at the Welsh Championships in Cardiff at the weekend.

The club, which trains students in Taekwondo in Kidderminster and Bewdley.

Paul Tonks won his first ever medal, taking gold, when he saw off club mate Callum Swift in the yellow belt heavyweight final.

Amelia Swift earned bronze in the ladies individual sparring and then paired with Maz Leno to take the team sparring title.

Olivia Tonks 15, scored a hat-trick with a bronze medal for her patterns, a silver medal in her individual sparring division, and finally joining with fellow Bewdley students Rosie Ashmore and Paris Orme to take the gold in the girls team sparring event.

Leno and Justin Chance successfully defended their national titles and maintained their unbeaten record on the competition circuit.

Neil Meredith (silver), Blaiz Orme (bronze), Adam Smith (bronze) and Rosie Ashmore (bronze) also had very impressive battles for their medals.

Ylva Althoff, George and Jessica Chance, Jack Day, Leo Filford, Kate Mason, Ravi and VJ Patel, Chris Rayment-Bishop, Arti Shar, Rhianna, Anushka, and Alex Sobainski, Georgia Swift, Joseph Tonks and Ashlee Whale just missed out on silverware.

The team is now in training for the Midlands Regional Championship in June and looks forward to entertaining the Wyre Forest district at many local events throughout the summer.
