HARRIERS' hopes of re-signing Mickey Demetriou were dashed after the defender joined League 2 outfit Shrewsbury Town.

The versatile player put pen to paper on a two-year deal yesterday.

He had been offered a new contract by Kidderminster at the end of the season but could not turn down the chance to play in the SkyBet Football League.

Demetriou joined the club in the summer of 2011 as a utility player but found his feet as an attack minded left-back who became an integral part of the team.

The former Eastbourne man, who had also attended Glenn Hoddle's Football Academy, also deputised ably at centre back for Harriers over the years.

He made 108 appearances for the Aggborough outfit in the Football Conference.

Demetriou is the second player this season to leave Harriers for the Football League, with right back Lee Vaughan joining Cheltenham.

In recent years a number of players have gone on from Harriers to have success at higher levels, with Loe Lolley, Russ Penn, Dean Lyness, Matty Blair and Jamille Matt just a few who have earned moves to higher league clubs.

“Mickey is another player who has served the club tremendously during his time here,” commented Harriers manager Gary Whild.

“It’s obviously disappointing to lose him as a player but everyone here is delighted to see him step up into the Football League."
