BOWLER Muhammad Saddiq was in devastating form as Chaddesley Corbett defeated struggling Aveley by nine wickets to hit the summit of the Worcestershire County League Division Three.

Saddiq has been in a rich vein so far this summer but he produced his best-ever figures for the club with an eye-catching 8-18 off nine overs.

So far this season, he has taken 22 wickets at a strike-rate of just 10.28 runs.

With Netherton losing to Stourport, Corbett’s 20-point haul saw them move to the summit, one point ahead of the Black Country side.

So far, they have won three matches, lost one and had two games abandoned.

Chaddesley won the toss and elected to bat first, allowing Saddiq to tear through Aveley’s batting line up.

He took the first eight wickets before Waqur Ahmed (1-12) and Shahed Zia (1-6) also chipped in as their opponents were skittled for 51 in just 19 overs.

In reply, Joe Lawton (12) was lost early but Mohammed Ramzan (11) and Chris Mole (26) comfortably guided Corbett to a comprehensive win.

Chaddesley will be aiming to continue their excellent form at local rivals Avoncroft on Saturday (1pm start).

The Seconds defeated Aveley by 127 runs, with Nick White hitting 51 runs as Corbett made 210 and their opponents were dismissed for 83.
