BEWDLEY Motorcycle Club held the first round of their Beginners and Clubmen Trial series at Shatterford last Thursday, with plenty of two-wheeled off road action.

A large entry of riders competed over a four lap eight section event, which pleased course plotters Kevin Taylor and Chris Tett.

In the A Route class, youth riders Aspen Hopkins and Bewdley Club member William Stansbie (Beta) (Sherco) were locked as they rode head-to-head all evening.

Both competitors could not be separated at the finish and completed the event without loss of marks.

The final podium position in the class, went down to a tie decide, between Belbroughton’s Alan Milway (Gas Gas) and Tenbury Wells youth competitor Josh Bawden (Gas Gas).

Both riders had finished with just two marks dropped but in the end the verdict went to Milway.

The B route produced a class win for veteran rider Dave Taylor (BSA), who also returned the perfect score of no marks lost.

However, he was pushed all the way by Steve Gollings (Francis Barnet).

Gollings was left to rue losing a single mark in the second section of the course as he missed out on matching the winning score.

Bewdley club member Liam Barney lost just three marks to finish third in class.

He edged out Lee Marsh (Gas Gas), who finished a further mark adrift.

The Beginners route, which totalled an entry of 11, saw a three-way battle between Charlie Steen (Beta), international road racer Mark Rogers (Scorpa) and Andrew Hickman (Gas Gas), with the trio maintaining perfect scores.

Special mention must go Bewdley schoolgirl Libby Tett (Beta), who, riding on the B Route, lost only nine marks and finished in a well-deserved sixth position.

The second of the three round series, will be held on Thursday, June 26 at the same venue and will be starting at 6pm.
