CLEOBURY Mortimer Golf Club captain Gary Hawes had his best ever captain' s weekend in his final year.

The seniors' competition was a closely fought affair with Roy Clifford and Yoshi Oyama taking third and second place respectively.

However, it was Hawes who won with a score of 39 points.

The junior competition was played over nine holes and was won by Harry King who shot 19 points.

The ladies' competition was also closely contested with Marj Hughes shooting 30 points, however Pam Wright just managed to take top spot with 32 points.

The main competition that everyone wanted, however, was the Captain's Cup and one of the four Cleobury majors.

A bumper field made the most of the stunning sunshine and fast greens and some fantastic scores were returned.

Chris Hawks continued his fine form with a nett 68 to take third place.

The top two was a close family battle between father Scott Severn and his son Jack, 13.

Scott had a one shot lead going down the final hole but after missing the green with his second shot, he could only manage a six and Jack bagged the silverware with a two point swing.
