HITMAN Anthony Malbon has said Harriers will always hold a special place for him but admitted he is moving on so he can play in his favoured central striking role.

The 22-year-old left the Aggborough outfit by mutual consent on Monday after reaching an agreement with the club to end his contract.

He joined from Newcastle Town for a five figure fee in January 2012 and made an immediate impact, bagging a last gasp winner against Alfreton on his debut.

The former Port Vale youngster went onto score 35 goals in 107 appearances, although his time at the club was punctuated by prolific spells and goal droughts.

His 19 goals in as many games in the second half of the 2012-13 season ended a 16-match run without a goal and helped to propel Kidderminster to second in the Conference Premier.

However, he endured a difficult 2013-14 campaign and struggled for form and fitness, scoring hitting the back of the net just seven times.

The industrious forward has also played in a number of roles, including wide on the right and behind the strikers.

"It wasn't easy decision but I have to think about my career," said the hitman.

"My only concern is playing football in my main position and I don't want to be used in midfield or on the right."

Malbon paid tribute to the fans, who have loved his goal-scoring heroics.

He said: "The fans have been absolutely brilliant, I could not thank them enough for their support.

"They made me love the club and Harriers will always hold a special place in my heart.

"I remember sitting on the bench in the FA Cup game at Sunderland and all the fans chanting my name, it was a special moment which gave be goosebumps.

"Kidderminster Harriers made me fall back in love with football.

"At the time I wasn't sure I was going to sign for them after my experience at Port Vale but they persuaded me to join and it was the right decision."

While the striker has been linked with a move to Stalybridge Celtic, who are managed by former Harriers team-mate Keith Briggs, Malbon has said there are a number of clubs chasing him.

He added: "I think the season where we finished second is my highlight.

"The goal that sticks in my mind was the one against Cambridge.

"I hadn't scored for 16 games but when that one went in it was like a huge weight came off my shoulders."
