CYCLING: With several of Wyre Forest’s top riders tackling the Tour de France climbs in the Alps, lower placed riders in the club’s midweek time trial championship took the opportunity to gain positions with some high scoring points.

Over the undulating 10 miles Great Witley course, Steve Vanes was the fastest for the club with a time of 23 minutes and 27 seconds, beating Jon Howard by the slim margin of seven seconds.

However, overall fastest was Richard Bussell of Beacon RC with a winning time of 23-15.

Justin Walters warmed up for his ride in the Alps with an impressive time of 56-39 when he partnered Jez Pile of VC Sevale in a two-up at his club’s midweek 25 miles time trial.

Claire Turner braved the worst of the weekend’s weather with a gutsy ride in the Warwickshire RC 10 miles time trial where she placed 92nd from an entry of 120 riders in 34-53.
