ROD Brown believes new addition Alex Cowley will bring much-needed experience to Stourport Swifts’ midfield.

The 32-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal to play for Brown for a third time.

As a teenager he was spotted by Brown and played under him during the manager’s first time at Walshes Meadow.

He then followed Brown to Redditch United where the duo enjoyed promotion success.

Since then, he has also played for Leamington and Halesowen Town and spent last season at Causeway United.

Brown said: “It’s great to have Alex on board, he brings a bit of experience in midfield.

“I remember spotting him as a 16-year-old and he was very talented and he’s gone onto have a good non-league career.

“But he’s a welcome addition to the squad.”

Swifts have also been handed two tough home games in the FA Vase and FA Cup.

They entertain West Midland Premier Champions Lye Town in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup on August 16.

They winners will then meeting either Ellesmere Rangers or Wellington on August 30.

In the Trophy, Stourport take on Bromsgrove Sporting in the first qualifying round on September 6. If they progress, Swifts would take on Tipton or Hinckley on October 4.

Brown, who managed Sporting’s predecessors Bromsgrove Rovers, said: “We’ve been given two good games but not easy ones.

“Lye are newly-promoted to the our division and Sporting have some good players like Mark Bellingham.”
