Wright: Win has lifted the gloom

CAPTAIN Jonathan Wright is hoping Saturday’s vital win over Walmley will have take the pressure off Kidderminster Victoria.

KVCC finally put a stop to a poor run of form which saw them slip near the bottom of the Birmingham League Premier with a hard fought two-wicket success at Chester Road.

Victory also closed the gap on Walmley and ensured the lower half of the table is looking incredibly tight.

KVCC’s improved confidence will be tested at fellow strugglers Himley this weekend (noon start), who are anchored at the foot of the table.

Kidderminster’s opponents will be sweating on the availability of Worcestershire batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who has been in great form for the county.

Wright said: “This was a very important win for us. It’s a massive boost to the confidence and means there will be less pressure on us and we’ll feel less tension.

“Himley will be very much like we were last week, so we’ll have to be very careful. It’s not clear if Tom Kohler-Cadmore will be available them, he is playing for Worcestershire every day except Saturday.”

Saturday’s victory over Walmley was set up by bowlers Gareth Williams (2-25) and Connor Smith (3-45), but KVCC’s opponents had rallied from 72-8 to post 168 all out.

KVCC’s reply struggled to get going, but Ryan Derrick (24) and Mark Fisher (14) guided KVCC to victory in 39 overs.

“The bowling was good and we could have dismissed Walmley for less,” added Wright.

“They rallied late on but before the game I would have taken 168.

“We limped over the line but it was great to see Mark and Ryan get us there. All of a sudden the world is a better place.”

Williams and Derrick will miss Saturday’s trip to Himley, but Andrew Kimberlin will return after hitting 80 runs and taking four wickets for the Seconds.

Neil Pinner is also in line for a return to action after recovering from a broken arm.
