Halsall was in brilliant form, setting a new Commonwealth record in 23.96.

Smith made smooth progress to the final with a third in her heat (25.08s) on Friday and third in the semi-finals.

She also reached finals of the 50m butterfly.

After a second in her heat (26.44) she finished in fourth in 26.43 to book her spot in tomorrow night’s final.

Tomorrow, Smith looks to impress in the 100m freestyle, where she was aiming to try and set a new personal best.
