A TRIP to Wales last weekend produced some excellent times for several Wyre Forest CRC riders.

Riding in heavy rain, Justin Walters recorded 21 minutes and 19 seconds for fourth place from 63 entries in the realteam.co.uk promoted 10-miles time trial on the R10/17 course near Abergavenny.

His wife Lucy Walters, who started later and benefited from dryer conditions, set a new personal best for the distance finishing 23rd with a time of 23-26.

The following day in breezy but dry conditions Dave Meacham and Brad Bradley, who was riding the distance for the first time, finished the 50-miles time trial promoted by Cardiff RCC on the R50/1b in eighth and 33rd places respectively with times of 1-57-24 and 2-10-40.

The club’s midweek club time trial championship resulted in another win for Walters followed by Steve Vanes and Jon Howard who were well clear of the rest of the field.

The following evening riders were in action in the inter club series at Castlemorton with Walters finishing third, Vanes fifth and Andy Overton seventh to keep the club in first place at the halfway point.

But the outstanding performance of the evening came from Lucy Walters who recorded 40-10 for the 15 miles taking 13 seconds off the ladies course record set in 1996 by Olympian and former British time trial and road race champion Ceris Gilfillan.

She will be organising another ladies coaching session on Sunday from 9.30-11.30am at Stourport Sports Club. And British Cycling coach Eleanor Jones will attend.
