Rhodes: Players won't get carried away in title quest

WORCESTER director of cricket Steve Rhodes has named a 12-strong squad for today's LV= County Championship Division Two clash with Gloucestershire at New Road (11am).

All-rounder Ross Whiteley is added to the players who were on duty in the County's last championship match against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham just over three weeks ago.

That match resulted in an eight-wicket win for leaders Worcestershire and, with second placed Surrey beaten by Kent, enabled them to open up a 43-point lead over their nearest rivals with a game in hand.

Worcestershire will secure a return to Division One if they defeat Gloucestershire and Surrey fail to defeat Leicestershire at Grace Road.

It is a strong position but Rhodes insists Worcestershire will not get carried away with their lofty position against opponents who defeated them in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Wednesday.

Rhodes said: "It was a big result for us to beat Gloucestershire in the last four-day game with Surrey getting beaten (by Kent). It just halted their charge a little bit.

"But we can only focus on our own games and we play Gloucestershire again in the next four-day game at home so we are very famliar with them.

"But we are also very cautious that these guys might feel a little wounded in losing a four-day game to us and they will come back strong."

Rhodes added: "Our players are an intelligent bunch as well. They are not prepared to get carried away.

"They very much do want to stick to the things they've done well and we all want to keep improving.

"The dressing room is a place I'll keep an eye on but thankfully I don't really need to because they won't get carried away.

"They've got their feet firmly on the ground."
