Bromsgrove Sporting 2, Bewdley Town 0

BEWDLEY Town suffered disappointment in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round as a late double shot them down at the Victoria Ground on Saturday.

Substitute Jozef Jakab came off the bench to bag and brace and ensure it was Bromsgrove Sporting who booked a trip to Coleshill in the next round.

The Hungarian hitman headed in two goals at the Victoria Ground as the Rouslers earned £1,500 in prize money and booked a Preliminary Round clash at Coleshill Town on Saturday, August 30.

Sporting had had the best of the game but had to be patient to grind down their Worcestershire rivals.

Bromsgrove were soon into their stride with Will Tibbetts having the first chance, cutting in from the right and shooting just wide.

As Bewdley settled, however, the game became a midfield stalemate with few chances at either end.

In fact the only save of the first half was a routine stop by Sporting stopper Jake Bedford from a 15 yard snapshot.

The hosted stepped up the pressure in the second half and with extra width began to test Bewdley's defence.

Striker Josh McKenzie had a shot well-saved while Rico Taylor worked a good position but hesitated allowing the goalkeeper to get a block.

An attacking substitution was made, Jakab coming on for Joe Brookes while Elliot Nash replaced Tibbetts.

The game seemed to be drifting towards a draw until, on 85 minutes when a right wing centre was headed back across goal to Jakab who prodded home from close range.

Bewdley could have levelled from the re-start as right back Ashley Horton made a surging run into the penalty area to hit a low cross that just eluded a team-mate arriving at the far post.

Sporting immediately doubled their lead, when Jakab headed in another right wing centre.

The visitors continued to battle and Bedford had to make a good save to keep out a shot from Russell Godfrey.
