Steve Vanes leads Wyre Forest home

CYCLING: Last week’s race in the Wyre Forest CRC midweek time trial championship was incorporated into the latest inter club event promoted by Evesham Wheelers.

Steve Vanes lead home the team in third place, ably supported by Justin Walters in fourth, Andy Overton sixth, Dave Meacham seventh, Paul Darby ninth and Brad Bradley 16th, giving Wyre Forest a comfortable lead in the series with one race remaining.

A few days earlier Meacham, Bradley and Jason Lloyd had contested Stourbridge Velo’s ten miles time trial placing fourth, 10th and 12th respectively with times of 23 minutes and 56 seconds, 25-49 and 25-53.

In last weekend’s Coventry CC promoted ten miles time trial, Walters placed ninth from an entry of 80 riders with a time of 21-40, while wife Lucy finished sixth from an entry of 40 ladies in a time of 24-06. Claire Turner recorded a personal best time for the distance with 33-19 to finish third on handicap.

Justin Walters also finished 21st from 162 riders in the Welsh Championship ten miles time trial promoted by Pontypool RCC.
