PROMISING teenager Tom Welsh highlighted the burgeoning junior section at Bewdley Tennis Club by winning both its men’s singles and doubles titles.
The 15-year-old dethroned defending champion Alfie Sylvester, 18, with a brilliant display to win 6-2, 6-1.
It was a double blow for Alfie, who earlier saw his hopes of a fourth doubles title with elder brother Jack, 21, denied by Welsh and partner Jack Henfield, who staved off a match point to win 6-2, 6-7, 7-5.
One Sylvester celebrating was Alfie and Jack’s mother Mandy, who chalked up a 10th singles title after defeating Alison Rosoman 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, more success came Henfield’s way when he celebrated victory in the President’s Cup mixed doubles with Dawn Gumbley, defeating Penny Marchant and Paul Bennett 6-4, 6-4.
Gumbley also picked up the women’s doubles title with Marchant defeating Mandy Sylvester and Alison Rosoman 6-4, 6-1.
Dave Meek won the veterans singles and mixed doubles with Ros Youngs.
Karen Vernon and Paul Aston won the handicapped mixed doubles beating Sue Brennan and Richard Litchfield 7-6, 6-3.
