GARY Whild has vowed he won’t let the club’s budget restrictions derail Kidderminster Harriers’ Vanarama Conference campaign, writes Peter McKinney.

The Aggborough outfit are currently looking for new investors to help soothe their cashflow woes and boost the manager.

Whild says club cannot currently match the financial muscle of big spending Forest Green Rovers, Bristol Rovers and Saturday’s opponents Grimsby Town.

Kidderminster’s situation has improved in recent weeks, with the club stopping legal action against former board members and benefactors Kath and Ernie Lane after opening a dialogue with them.

Harriers have made an encouraging start to the season and are currently eighth in the table after ten games, with five wins, three draws and just two defeats and Whild is keen to build on that solid platform.

“Let’s be honest, circumstances have changed a bit this year in terms of finances but you have to put things into perspective,” said Harriers’ manager.

“We had 16 lads against Altrincham and young Jake Green made his league debut and did well.

“We haven’t got same resources as the likes of Grimsby but as long as I am here we’ll always do our best to try and compete.

“It is difficult, but we have a set of lads who are always willing to have a go and roll their sleeves up.

“We lost two games, of which we were bitterly disappointed, but sometimes you have to have a bit of a reality check. That’s where we are as a club, but we’ll always do our best.”

They face a Grimsby side at home this weekend (3pm ko) who are keen to win promotion to the Football League.

The Mariners will come to Aggborough on the back of a three-game winless run but they boast a strong looking squad.

Whild is hoping Jared Hodgkiss and Callum Gittings will overcome knocks to be fit for the heavyweight clash.

Whild said: “Grimsby have a lot of expectations to get out of our league.

“It’s nice to be playing teams like that and hopefully they come to us on the back foot a bit.

“If you look at the league, there is nothing in it. If we had a couple of more points, and we’re right in the mix now, we’d be in the top three.”
