Kidderminster Carolians 24, Camp Hill 27

KIDDERMINSTER earned two bonus points but were denied victory by a late Camp Hill fight back on Saturday.

The Marlpool Lane side played their part in an evenly balanced Midlands Division Two West (North) clash.

They had edged into a 24-19 lead but a late penalty and try saw their opponents from Birmingham snatch victory.

The game started with a penalty and Liam Lindsey try, handing Camp Hill an 8-0 lead.

KCs suffered a setback when they lost Rob Phillips to injury, which left them visibly vulnerable at lineouts. Colts player Josh Winfield had a debut to remember, as he bagged a first try after linking up with Jordan Hatch.

George Morgan then scored and converted a try to edge KCs into a 12-8 lead.

Three penalties and a try by Simon Edwards saw Camp Hill edge 19-12 ahead, but KCs levelled the scores when Hatch touched down, before Morgan added the extras.

Winfield, who was also named man of the match, added a second try, only for Camp Hill to pinch the points late on.

Director of rugby Phil Knowles said: “It was a good game of rugby and it was a shame we didn’t win it.

“Josh Winfield made a very good debut, he’s a lovely lad and definitely one for the future.”

KCs face Wolverhampton away in the league on Saturday (3pm ko) and will welcome back Andy McLellan into contention.

Chris Baldwin is set to miss out due to injury.
